NASA has unveiled the four astronauts who will embark on the Artemis II mission, humanity's first crewed journey to the Moon in over five decades. This mission is particularly significant as it will feature the first woman, first Black person, and first Canadian to fly on a lunar mission, highlighting a new era of diverse space exploration.
Astronaut Profiles and Preparations
Mission Specialist Christina Koch made history in 2019 by conducting the first all-woman spacewalk at the International Space Station (ISS) and holds the record for the longest spaceflight by an American woman at 328 days. Pilot Victor Glover, a Navy aviator and test pilot, served as the pilot for the six-month Crew-1 mission to the ISS in 2020. Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen, hailing from Canada, will make his inaugural voyage into space on this mission, having been selected for astronaut training with the Canadian Space Agency in 2009. Commander Reid Wiseman, a decorated veteran Navy aviator, spent approximately six months at the ISS in 2014 and was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2009.
