China Unveils AI Ethics Review Guidelines
China announced on April 3 the release of trial guidelines on the ethical review and service provision of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, co-drafted by ten government agencies. The objective of these guidelines is to promote technological innovation in AI ethics review and to strengthen the application of technical measures to prevent related ethical risks. The guidelines emphasize core principles such as the protection of human interests, fairness, justice, and the control and reliability of AI systems.
Detailed Content and Strengthening Measures for AI Ethics Review
The guidelines specify the content to be evaluated, including selection criteria for training data, the validity of algorithms, model and system design, and measures to prevent algorithmic bias, discrimination, and inappropriate use. Furthermore, China encourages the orderly open-sourcing of high-quality datasets for AI ethics review, strengthens the development of comprehensive risk management, evaluation, and auditing tools, and researches risk assessment methodologies based on specific application scenarios. The guidelines also underscore the promotion of AI product and service development and dissemination in compliance with scientific and technological ethical standards, as well as the protection of intellectual property rights for technologies used in AI ethics review.
