40 Civil Society Groups Launch Joint Action for AI Publicness
Joint Action Launched to Address AI Social Issues
Around 40 civil society organizations, including Participatory Solidarity, officially launched the 'Civil Society Joint Action for Strengthening AI Accountability and Publicness' on March 31. They urged public accountability in resolving social issues stemming from the Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AX). During a press conference, the joint action group pointed out that AI development exacerbates various problems such as personal data infringement, biased training data, algorithmic threats to public discourse, and job displacement.
Call for Shift to Social-Oriented AI Policy and Citizen Participation
The civil society groups emphasized in their declaration that the current technology-centric AI policy must shift towards a social policy. They demanded that the participation of diverse stakeholders, including citizens, must be guaranteed in the decision-making process for AI development and utilization. The joint action group called on the government and corporations to enhance accountability and publicness across all aspects of AI development and application, stressing the need for a social response that considers the impact of AI transition on citizens, workers, and local communities.
