FBI Designates Detroit Synagogue Attack as Hezbollah-Inspired Terrorism
Detroit Synagogue Attack Labeled Hezbollah-Inspired Terrorism
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has officially labeled the recent attack on a synagogue in Detroit, Michigan, as an act of terrorism inspired by Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group. Investigators revealed that the suspect's online activity included repeated searches for pro-Hezbollah news channels, Iranian news channels, and videos related to shootouts and bullets. This suggests the suspect had been consistently consuming such content since the outbreak of the Iran-Israel war.
Suspect's Online Activity and Background
FBI Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Runyon stated that a review of the suspect's online activity since January 2026 revealed he regularly consumed breaking news, statements, and live coverage from Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem, as well as news about an Iranian fatwa for 'total jihad against the US military'. The suspect, born in Lebanon, entered the U.S. in 2011 on an immediate relative visa and was granted U.S. citizenship in 2016. His two brothers, identified as members of Hezbollah's rocket unit, and their two children were reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in Southern Lebanon on March 5. Following this, he sent videos to family members in Lebanon discussing martyrdom and his intention to kill as many Jews as possible.
