UAE Persuades Participation in Multinational Coalition to Unblock Hormuz, Bahrain Supports
UAE Efforts to Unblock Strait of Hormuz
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced its participation in a multinational naval coalition to open the Strait of Hormuz, which has been blocked by Iran. The UAE has conveyed this intention to the United States and other Western countries, actively encouraging other Middle Eastern nations to join. According to a Financial Times report, the UAE plans to send its navy to the coalition. A source indicated that the coalition's goal is not to wage war with Iran but to counter Iran's actions affecting the global economy.
Bahrain's Support and Gulf Nations' Damages
Among the Gulf states, Bahrain is the only country that has supported the UAE's multinational coalition plan. Both the UAE and Bahrain have historically taken a strong stance against Iran and recently joined a joint statement by 22 nations condemning Iran's de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. These two nations are considering pursuing a UN Security Council resolution to gain international approval for the future multinational coalition. Meanwhile, the UAE has suffered the most significant damage in this conflict, with critical infrastructure, including Dubai International Airport, the International Financial Centre, and the Fujairah Port oil storage facilities, being attacked by Iran. Iran has launched 1,826 drones and 387 missiles towards the UAE.
