Iran and UAE Exchange Accusations Amid Escalating Military Tensions
Iran Claims Engagement with US Forces in Strait of Hormuz
Iran has accused the United States of violating the ceasefire by attacking an Iranian oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iranian state media, the Iranian naval forces engaged with three US destroyers using various ballistic and anti-ship cruise missiles, as well as drones with high-explosive warheads. These combined operations reportedly inflicted significant losses and damage on the American destroyers, forcing them to withdraw from the area. Furthermore, the explosions heard in the capital Tehran last night were attributed to the activation of air defense systems engaging with incoming projectiles, rather than confirmed bombings on the ground.
UAE Responds to Missile and Drone Attacks from Iran
United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities in the emirate of Fujairah reported hearing aerial interceptions in the last three hours. This follows an announcement that UAE air defense systems are responding to missile and drone attacks, which they state are originating from Iran. On Monday night, UAE defenses intercepted 15 missiles and 4 drones, which reportedly struck Fujairah oil industries. This area is critical for exporting roughly 60% of the UAE's oil to global markets, as it sits on the Gulf of Oman, just outside the Strait of Hormuz. UAE officials have strongly condemned these 'unprovoked' drone and missile attacks, describing them as dangerous escalations and a direct threat to national security. They maintain that the UAE reserves its full and legitimate right to respond to these attacks in accordance with international law.
