Japan Showcases Advanced Food Technology and Agricultural Products to Foreign Ambassadors
Japan Appeals to Ambassadors with 'Cutting-Edge Food' Technology
On March 25th, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries hosted an event in Tokyo, inviting foreign ambassadors to promote Japan's advanced food technologies, known as 'Food Tech,' and its agricultural products. Approximately 60 resident ambassadors attended the event, where food systems utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as plant factories and land-based aquaculture were showcased. Agriculture Minister Suzuki took the opportunity to actively promote the excellence of food tech and Japanese cuisine, expressing his anticipation for the expansion of agricultural exports.
Emphasizing Overseas Market Expansion Amidst Declining Domestic Rice Consumption
During the event, Agriculture Minister Suzuki stated, "While Japan's population is gradually declining, the global market will continue to grow." He emphasized the importance of actively developing overseas markets to ensure that Japanese food products gain a larger share. With domestic rice consumption decreasing and private stockpiles expected to reach record highs, he highlighted that export expansion could be a crucial solution to the domestic rice surplus problem. He further added, "Instead of worrying about accumulating inventory, we should recognize that by securing more overseas markets, we can produce even more."
