Vietnam to Unify Literature Textbooks and Integrate AI in Education
Unification of Literature Textbooks and Academic Seminar
Vietnam plans to unify all literature textbooks from primary to high school into a single volume nationwide, starting from the 2026-2027 academic year. This change will apply to all subjects. On the morning of March 25, the Ho Chi Minh City Linguistics Association and the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Literary Research and Education held an academic seminar titled 'Implementation of Literature Curriculum and Textbooks in the Context of Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW (Resolution 71) on Breakthroughs in Education and Training Development' at the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Science and Technology Associations.
Educational Reforms and AI Integration
Associate Professor Nguyen Thanh Thi, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Literary Research and Education, emphasized that regardless of the number of textbooks, the main goal remains for students to acquire knowledge and comprehensively develop their abilities and qualities. Resolution 71 introduces new requirements, including providing free textbooks to all students by 2030, a significant shift towards modern and active teaching methods, and especially the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in education and assessment.
Associate Professor Bui Manh Hung, a senior lecturer in the Literature Department at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, argued that if the Ministry of Education and Training makes revisions, the 2018 literature curriculum should be refined in a more consistent manner in line with the spirit of Resolution 71, rather than being restructured based on AI development outcomes, as the application of AI belongs to the organization of teaching and learning. He stressed that textbooks are not the only teaching material and that the core requirements to be achieved are reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
