Humanitarian Aid Ship Arrives in Cuba Amid US Blockade, Deepening Energy Crisis
International Aid Ship Reaches Havana
The first vessel of an international aid flotilla arrived in Havana, Cuba, on March 24, 2026, carrying essential supplies including food, medicine, and solar panels. This aid is expected to significantly help residents grappling with a deepening economic and energy crisis, intensified by a US fuel blockade. The ship, which departed from Mexico, arrived three days later than planned due to strong winds and currents, with approximately 30 international activists on board.
Energy Crisis and Public Hardship
Cuba is currently facing severe energy shortages caused by the US fuel blockade, leading to transport disruptions, reduced work hours, flight cancellations, and nationwide blackouts. Residents like Lisandra Sánchez from Havana expressed gratitude for the assistance, highlighting the urgent need for material support. Two more aid ships are expected to arrive this week, delivering a total of 50 tons of aid. These efforts come amid increasing pressure from US President Donald Trump for political change on the island.
