Hong Kong's HK$2 Transport Subsidy Scheme to Change on April 3
Hong Kong's HK$2 Transport Subsidy Scheme Revision
Hong Kong will implement a revised HK$2 (26 US cents) transport fare scheme next Friday, April 3. Under the new rules, elderly and disabled residents will only enjoy the flat rate for journeys costing HK$10 or less. This change signifies an adjustment in the scope of transport fare support for vulnerable groups.
Discount Rate Adjustment and Scope
Authorities stated that the new "HK$2 flat rate or 80 per cent discount" model will be implemented on April 3. Beneficiaries under the revised scheme will only enjoy the HK$2 rate for journeys where the adult fare is HK$10 or less. For fares exceeding HK$10, beneficiaries will be required to pay 20 per cent of the total fare. This revision appears to be a measure to consider the financial sustainability of the transport subsidy scheme.
