Iran War Deepens Global Energy Crisis, Asia Hit Hardest
Iran War Prolongs, Energy Crisis Expands
The Iran war, lasting longer than anticipated, is exacerbating the global energy crunch. Asian countries, with their high dependence on Middle Eastern oil and gas, are facing critical situations. Similar to the iconic scenes of the 1st oil shock in 1973, where neon signs dimmed in Tokyo's Ginza and Germany's autobahns emptied, the current energy crisis stemming from the Iran war is directly impacting daily life in various nations.
India's Daily Life Paralysed by LPG Shortage
With the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, LPG tanker operations have ceased, plunging India into widespread chaos due to an LPG gas shortage. In India, approximately 3,000 km from Tehran, long queues at refilling stations, physical altercations over gas, and LPG trucks becoming targets for thieves highlight the social unrest. With over 300 million households using LPG for cooking, fraudulent schemes involving malicious apps for gas reservations have also emerged.
Impact on Dining Industry and Lifestyle Changes
The LPG shortage has also brought changes to India's lifestyle and dining industry. Amazon India saw a more than 30-fold surge in induction cooker sales; however, Indian cuisine is not well-suited for induction cooking, leading to inconvenience. Notably, popular restaurant 'Annapurna' was forced to stop selling dosa, its main dish, as the crispy texture could only be achieved with gas flames.
