ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan Cleared of Sexual Misconduct Allegations
UN Investigation and Judicial Findings
Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), has been cleared of all wrongdoing after a United Nations (UN) investigation into sexual misconduct allegations. A panel of three judges, appointed by the ICC's executive oversight body, the Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP), reviewed an external fact-finding report conducted by the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS). The 150-page report, submitted on March 9, was examined by the judges since December.
Confidentiality and Political Context
The highly confidential report will not be made public and remains unseen by most of the court's 125 member states. The judges concluded that the findings "do not establish any misconduct or breach of duty." These allegations against Khan unfolded in parallel with his efforts to pursue a war crimes investigation against Israeli officials, adding a layer of political complexity to the outcome of this internal review.
