Dolores Huerta stated that she remained silent for so long to protect the movement she had dedicated her life to. Now 95, she urged people not to forget the impact of their movement, emphasizing its importance beyond an individual. California Governor Gavin Newsom did not directly address renaming the holiday but commented that the farmworkers' movement was 'much bigger than just one man,' suggesting a distinction between the movement's achievements and the alleged actions of its leader.
