Anti-War Protest in St. John's Highlights Divided Views on Iran War
Anti-War Protest and Contrasting Views
Around 100 people gathered outside the Colonial Building in St. John's on Saturday for an anti-war rally. They were met by some counter-protesters, highlighting diverse views on the Iran war. The rally, organized by Palestine Action YYT and other social justice groups, included members of the Iranian community, such as Elham Zamani.
Diverse Voices Within the Iranian Community
Zamani stated that previous rallies in St. John's had not represented the viewpoints of all Iranians. She expressed, "I am here to raise the voices of millions of Iranians who believe that intervention — military intervention — doesn't bring any democracy for them." In contrast, some counter-protesters felt that the anti-war rally supported the Islamic republic, with Azadeh Hadad stating, "The Islamic regime is the actual enemy of my country. They are killing my people."
