South Korea Forms Joint Task Force for US Trade Probe
South Korea is establishing a joint public-private task force in response to the launch of a U.S. Section 301 trade investigation. Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo led a series of high-level trade meetings on Friday to discuss strategies aimed at preventing an unfavorable outcome for Korea related to the probe. This initiative underscores the seriousness with which Seoul views the U.S. investigation.
Potential Tariff Reinstatement and Response Strategy
Minister Yeo indicated that the investigation is likely aimed at reinstating tariff levels set in the trade deal agreed upon last November, prior to the U.S. Supreme Court invalidating broader tariffs imposed by the Trump administration last month. He added that the joint public-private task force, involving industry and experts, will file written submissions and participate in public hearings to finalize a response by the middle of next month.
