DILG Secretary Exposes BFP Corruption
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla disclosed in a press briefing on Thursday that corrupt Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) officials attempted to bribe him with P1.5 million per fire truck to avoid charges. Secretary Remulla stated that these officials were caught due to their greed, and their actions opened the door for their prosecution. He emphasized that he would pursue legal action against all those involved in this corrupt scheme within the BFP.
Corruption Leads to Equipment Shortages and Public Deception
Secretary Remulla criticized the pervasive corruption within the BFP, which he linked to the shortage of essential fire-fighting equipment. He highlighted that while firefighters risked their lives on the ground, high-ranking officials were enriching themselves through fraudulent procurement processes. Remulla also exposed instances where officials allegedly extorted bribes for fire inspection permits, calling it a deception of the public. He asserted that such corrupt practices not only hinder the modernization of the BFP's equipment but also compromise public safety.
