Winter Wonderland in Gangwon Mountains, Spring Blossoms in South Korea
Gangwon-do's Last Winter Gift
The mountainous areas of Gangwon-do Province continue to present a winter wonderland, with an additional 30cm of snow falling after an earlier 60cm snowfall. "Snow flowers" have bloomed on branches, attracting hikers and photographers. People are enjoying what might be the final snow trekking of the year or capturing the exotic snowy landscape with their cameras. Lee Sang-hwi, a resident from Gyeonggi-do, mentioned taking a day off work to experience the snow after hearing the news.
Early Spring in Southern Regions
Conversely, spring flowers in the southern regions are already reaching their peak, bringing a warm spring atmosphere. Red and white apricot blossoms (maehwa) are blooming along the Seomjingang River, creating a magnificent sight. This year, the blossoms opened their petals about a week earlier than usual, drawing large crowds. The Gwangyang Maehwa Festival, which signals the beginning of spring, has officially opened, attracting numerous visitors.
Spring and Winter Coexist Under One Sky
The contrasting scenes of snow-covered Gangwon-do and the blooming apricot blossoms in the south illustrate Korea's diverse natural environments. The remaining winter charm in the north and the arrival of full spring in the south offer a unique experience of seasonal transition under the very same sky.
