Utah Woman Kouri Richins Found Guilty of Husband's Murder
Guilty Verdict and Charges in Husband's Murder
On March 16, Kouri Richins, a Utah woman, was found guilty by a jury on all counts, including aggravated murder, in the death of her husband, Eric Richins. The jury deliberated for just three hours before delivering the verdict. Prosecutors argued that she poisoned her husband with five times the lethal dose of fentanyl. The prosecution also contended that this was not her first attempt, as she had tried to poison him with a sandwich on Valentine's Day just weeks prior.
Motive and Additional Accusations
The prosecution stated that Kouri Richins' motive was money and an extramarital affair. She was reportedly drowning in over $4 million of debt and had forged documents and committed insurance fraud to get her hands on Eric's estate, which she intended to use to fund her failing real estate flipping business. The defense rested without calling a single witness. Richins now faces up to life in prison, with her sentencing scheduled for May 13, which would have been Eric Richins' 44th birthday.
