Arirang 7 Releases Ultra-High Resolution Images, Next-Generation Medium Satellite 3 Also Operational
Arirang 7 Demonstrates Domestic Satellite Technology with Ultra-High Resolution Images
The first images captured by Arirang 7, an Earth observation satellite developed with domestic technology, have been unveiled. The images show Jamsil Olympic Stadium with remarkable clarity, identifying stadium seats, tracks, building roofs, and even lane markings, boasting an ultra-high resolution of 0.3 meters. This represents a significant improvement in resolution compared to images from Arirang 3A, launched in 2015, to the extent that it can distinguish car models.
Next-Generation Medium Satellite 3's 'ROKITS' Observes Aurora and Expected for Disaster Monitoring
The next-generation medium satellite 3, launched aboard Nuriho last year, is also operating normally. Its payload, 'ROKITS,' developed by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, has secured images of the aurora during a geomagnetic storm on February 14, proving its capabilities. The Korea AeroSpace Administration plans to transition Arirang 7 and the next-generation medium satellite 3 missions to full operational status soon. These domestically produced satellites are expected to be utilized for disaster monitoring, such as forest fires, and hold significant meaning as they enhance South Korea's independent Earth observation capabilities without relying on foreign technology.
