Most Filipino Women See Housewife Role as Fulfilling as Paid Work
Filipino Women's Perception of the Housewife Role
A recent survey by independent pollster Social Weather Stations revealed that 83% of Filipino women agree that "being a housewife is just as fulfilling as working for pay." This marks an increase from 70% when the same question was posed in 1994. The findings were released in early March to coincide with National Women's Month, shedding light on evolving perceptions within the Philippines.
Contrast with International Gender Equality Measures
Despite the Philippines ranking among Asia's most gender-equal societies by several international measures, the survey indicates that a majority of Filipino women still believe their primary place is in the home. This highlights a potential divergence between international assessments of gender equality and the actual self-perception of women within the country.
