Australian Author Craig Silvey Faces New Child Exploitation Charges
Additional Charges and Allegations
Australian author Craig Silvey has made his third court appearance on child exploitation charges. He was initially charged in January with the distribution and possession of child exploitation material. Now, he faces an additional count of possession and a new charge of producing child exploitation material. The period covered by the charge of producing child exploitation material is from February 2022 through June 2022. The new possession charge is dated January 12 of this year, coinciding with when detectives executed a search warrant at Mr. Silvey's Fremantle home.
Court Appearance and Future Proceedings
Mr. Silvey briefly appeared in Fremantle Magistrates Court, where his strict bail conditions were continued. WA Police stated in a separate announcement that they have also charged a woman in her 60s with allegedly producing and distributing child exploitation material. This woman is scheduled to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court next month. Mr. Silvey has not yet entered any pleas for the four charges he is facing. The court heard that one of the charges relates to written material. He is scheduled to appear in court again in May.
