Indian Election Commission Announces Poll Schedule for 4 States and 1 Union Territory
Key States and Union Territory Election Dates Revealed
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially announced the schedule for the 2026 assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory. Assam's 126 assembly constituencies and Kerala's 140 constituencies will hold polling in a single phase on Thursday, April 9. Puducherry's 30 constituencies will also conduct their elections on April 9. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu's 234 assembly constituencies are slated for polling on Thursday, April 23.
West Bengal Elections in Two Phases, All Results on May 4
West Bengal's 294 assembly constituencies will see voting conducted in two phases. The first phase, covering 152 constituencies, will take place on April 23, followed by the second phase for 142 constituencies on April 29. The counting of votes for all states and the Union Territory is scheduled to occur simultaneously on May 4, 2026. Additionally, the schedule for eight by-elections in regions including Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Tripura was also announced.
