Overseas Filipino Workers Repatriated Amidst Middle East Unrest
More than 300 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, arrived back in the Philippines this Sunday morning. According to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), they landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on a chartered flight around 7 AM. The repatriation process for these workers, affected by instability in the Middle East, was complicated by the need for various clearances, including exit clearances, exit visas, and transit visas. The Philippine government has prepared assistance programs for the returning Filipinos.
Retired Police Officer Shot Dead in Tondo, Manila
A 56-year-old man was killed in a riding-in-tandem shooting incident in Barangay 134, Zone 1, Tondo, Manila, past midnight on Sunday. CCTV footage shows the victim riding his motorcycle when he was followed by another motorcycle carrying two suspects. Shortly after, one of the suspects dismounted and pointed a gun at the victim before firing. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His relatives confirmed that he was a retired police officer. The suspects reportedly took the victim's valuables before fleeing. The Philippine National Police (PNP) is conducting follow-up operations to identify and apprehend the two suspects.
