7 Yakuza Executives Arrested for Ueno Robbery of 423 Million Yen
7 Arrested, Including Yakuza Executive
The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested seven individuals, including Jinryu Kano (21), an executive of a subordinate organization of the designated Yakuza group Yamaguchi-gumi. They are suspected of robbing a money exchanger and others of a suitcase containing approximately 423 million yen on a street in Ueno, Tokyo, in January. One of the suspects was observed yawning shortly after his arrest.
Identified Roles and Movement Before and After the Crime
Of the seven arrested, two were identified as masterminds, three as perpetrators, and two as facilitators who prepared getaway vehicles. Before the crime, the masterminds and perpetrators gathered in a park in Minami-Tokiwadai, Itabashi Ward, and then proceeded to Ueno in a car driven by a mastermind. After seizing the cash, they fled in a vehicle, then switched to another car, escaping through Ibaraki and Tochigi to Saitama Prefecture. The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the whereabouts of the stolen 423 million yen.
Investigating Connection to Haneda Airport Attempted Robbery
Approximately two and a half hours after the Ueno incident, an attempted robbery of 190 million yen occurred at a Haneda Airport parking lot. The Metropolitan Police Department plans to carefully investigate whether the seven arrested individuals were involved in this incident as well. The police have not yet disclosed whether the seven suspects have admitted to the charges.
