Man Convicted for Driving with Lover's Husband on Bonnet

In the early hours of June 29, 2024, 50-year-old Chia Hioh Sia was convicted in a multi-story carpark in Sengkang, Singapore, for driving his car with Goh Yong Seng, the husband of his affair partner, clinging to the bonnet. At the time, Chia was naked in the car with the married woman when her husband, Goh, appeared on the scene, sparking the incident. Despite this shocking situation, Chia attempted to exit the carpark with Goh still clinging to the car's bonnet.

Court Deems Actions 'Unreasonable Response' Despite 'Fear' Claim

During the trial, Chia Hioh Sia claimed he acted out of fear upon Goh's appearance. However, District Judge Ong Luan Tze rejected his claim. The judge ruled that Chia's actions constituted an "unreasonable response" given the circumstances and found him guilty. This verdict clarifies legal responsibility for an individual's actions in unforeseen circumstances and is seen as a firm stance against acts that endanger others' safety.
