70-year-old arrested for attacking 50-year-old with knife over 'noisy newspaper'
Assault Incident Sparked by Newspaper Noise on Bus
Around 10:00 AM on June 1, in Nishikojiya, Ota Ward, Tokyo, Tomio Ishii (75) was arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder a man in his 50s by stabbing him in the face with a knife. The victim sustained minor injuries.
According to police investigations, Ishii and the victim had an argument on a moving bus regarding the way the victim was reading his newspaper. The two men then exited the bus, and Ishii allegedly attacked the man with a knife. He was apprehended on the spot by police officers who responded to the scene.
Suspect Claims 'No Intent to Kill'
During police questioning, Ishii stated that he "had no intention to kill" and that the "sound of the newspaper opening was annoying." The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances and motives behind the incident.
