Angat Dam Water Level Drops Below Minimum Operating Level, Public Urged to Conserve Water
Angat Dam Water Level Below Minimum Operating Level
The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) in the Philippines has urged the public to conserve water as the water level at Angat Dam has dropped below its minimum operating level. According to NWRB Executive Director Servilio David Jr., the current water level at Angat Dam is 173.4 meters, which is 6 to 7 meters below the minimum operating level. This drop in water level raises concerns about potential water shortages due to drought conditions.
Prolonged El Niño and Water Conservation Measures
Based on reports from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the El Niño phenomenon is expected to persist from December 2026 until the first part of 2027. In response, the NWRB is implementing contingency measures and strongly advising the public to practice rainwater harvesting and water recycling. These efforts aim to prepare for a prolonged water scarcity and ensure the efficient management of water resources from Angat Dam.
