Pope Emphasizes Social Values in the AI Era
Pope Leo XIV, in his first encyclical, 'Magnifica Humanitas' (Great Humanity), reflected on the Church's social doctrine in the age of artificial intelligence. This encyclical was published to mark the 135th anniversary of 'Rerum Novarum'. The Pope called for safeguarding 'great humanity' where God resides, and for promoting truth, labor dignity, social justice, and peace.
Responsible AI Use and Promotion of Multilateralism
Emphasizing that artificial intelligence must not be used for evil in the digital era, the Pope stressed the need to move beyond the 'just war' theory and revitalize dialogue and multilateralism. He stated that technology itself is not evil, but it 'bears the face of its conceivers, investors, managers, and users,' thus urging construction 'with goodness' and 'always maintaining humanity.'
