China Urges US Cooperation on AI Development, Governance
China Emphasizes Need for US-China AI Cooperation
China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, stated at a press conference on the 19th that China and the United States should cooperate to promote the development and governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This follows discussions on AI cooperation between the two nations during last week's meeting in Beijing between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. While both countries are engaged in fierce competition over rapidly evolving AI technology, the talks explored possibilities for collaboration.
Agreement on Intergovernmental AI Dialogue
Guo Jiakun reported that the leaders of both countries held constructive discussions on AI-related issues and agreed to initiate an intergovernmental dialogue on artificial intelligence. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant had also made similar remarks to US media last week, confirming this development. Guo added that as major AI powers, the two countries should cooperate to ensure that AI contributes more effectively to the advancement of human civilization and the common welfare of the international community.
