Train-Bus Collision Occurs in Bangkok
On the afternoon of May 16, a cargo train and a route bus collided in central Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. According to local authorities, at least 8 people, including bus passengers and the driver, died in the accident, and more than 30 others were injured, including those in nearby cars and on motorcycles. Rescue operations inside the bus are currently ongoing.
Cause of Accident and Scene Situation
At the time of the accident, the railroad crossing barrier at the scene was a manually operated type. However, due to traffic congestion, the bus involved in the accident and other vehicles were stopped on the tracks. It is believed that the barrier failed to close as the train approached, leading to the tragic incident. According to the Japanese Embassy in Thailand, there is no information at this time indicating that any Japanese nationals were involved in the accident.
