EU Rejects Putin's 'Schroeder Role' Suggestion for Security Talks
European Union governments have rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin's suggestion that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder could represent them in future security talks with Moscow.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Saturday that he believes the war in Ukraine is nearing its end and that he would be willing to negotiate new security arrangements for Europe. Putin indicated that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder would be his preferred partner for such negotiations.
EU Rejects Proposal
However, European Union foreign ministers, attending a meeting in Brussels on Monday, rejected Putin's suggestion. European governments opposed the idea of Schroeder representing them in potential future talks with Moscow regarding the continent's security.
