Strategic Guidance for China-US Relations Development
Premier Li Qiang met with the US Senate delegation led by Senator Dan Sullivan in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Premier Li stated that in February this year, President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump had a phone call, providing new strategic guidance for the development of China-US relations. China is willing to work with the United States to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen dialogue and communication, create a favorable atmosphere for exchanges between the two countries and cooperation in various fields, achieve more tangible results, continuously enhance the well-being of the two peoples, and inject certainty and positive energy into the world.
Taiwan Issue: An Insurmountable Red Line
Premier Li emphasized that practice has repeatedly proven that mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation are the correct ways for China and the US, as two major powers, to get along. He added that it is more in the fundamental interests of both countries for the US to work with China, engaging in more dialogue rather than confrontation, and more mutually beneficial cooperation rather than a zero-sum game, to build stable and predictable China-US economic and trade relations. Premier Li specifically highlighted that the Taiwan issue concerns China's core interests and is the first red line that must not be crossed in China-US relations. He expressed hope that the US Congress would approach and handle the Taiwan issue prudently, taking into account the broader context of friendly cooperation between China and the US, thereby playing a positive role in the stable, healthy, and sustained development of China-US relations.
NPC Standing Committee Chairman Also Meets Delegation
Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, also met with the US Senate delegation. Chairman Zhao stated that the National People's Congress of China is willing to strengthen exchanges with the US Congress and realize more exchanges and mutual visits. He noted that this visit by the delegation would contribute to promoting contact and exchanges between China and the US, as well as dialogue and exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries. He added that he hopes the US side will view China and its development objectively and rationally.
