Türkiye-Algeria Enhance High-Level Cooperation
A warm welcome was extended to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, marking a more formal footing for relations between the two nations. Both countries agreed to advance their relationship through a High-Level Cooperation Council and establish a key partnership in the energy sector. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan highlighted the long-standing cooperation with Algeria, stating that they would enhance long-term collaboration on energy supply security, especially in the field of natural gas.
Expanding Energy and Economic Partnership
Algeria has become an important alternative source of gas not just for Türkiye but also for the wider region, a role that has gained significance as Europe seeks alternatives following the Russia-Ukraine war. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune noted the significant strides made in the relationship over the last five years. He stated that the visit aims to diversify relations in the economic sphere, ensure partnership support across different sectors, and safeguard their shared historical heritage. During the visit, 14 agreements were signed, covering areas such as trade and technology. Türkiye also has a considerable presence in Algeria's construction and mining sectors.
