Russia-Backed Forces Repel Rebel Offensive, Foil Coup in Mali
Military Operations Intensify in Mali
Military operations are intensifying in Mali, West Africa, as Russia reportedly tightens its grip on the region. The Russian Defence Ministry announced that Russia-backed Africa Corps forces successfully repelled a major rebel advance and thwarted an attempted coup over the weekend. The operation, involving helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and ground forces, inflicted significant losses on the militants, forcing their retreat and preventing the fall of key state institutions in the capital, Bamako.
'Decisive Blow' Against Insurgent Forces
Officials claim approximately 12,000 fighters were involved in the assault, with hundreds killed and dozens of vehicles destroyed during the clashes. The Africa Corps is said to have secured strategic positions, including the presidential palace. Moscow is characterising this as a 'decisive blow' to insurgent forces.
