Most contemporary artificial intelligence (AI) systems learn to complete tasks through machine learning and deep learning. Machine learning is a computational approach that enables models to identify patterns in data for making predictions. Deep learning, a subset of machine learning, utilizes multi-layered neural networks to autonomously extract features and learn complex patterns from unstructured data.
However, these learning methods can sometimes lead AI to exhibit overconfidence in certain situations. A new brain-inspired approach suggests that AI systems can be taught an appropriate level of 'self-doubt'.
