Malaysia Uncovers Indonesian Migrant Smuggling Ring Via Singapore, Thailand
Shifting Smuggling Routes Uncovered
Malaysian immigration authorities have discovered an Indonesian migrant-smuggling syndicate that shifted from sea crossings to a more elaborate land route through Singapore and southern Thailand. A pre-dawn raid on Saturday at two major transport terminals in Kuala Lumpur led to the arrest of 11 Indonesians, including a suspected transporter.
Arrests Made and Evidence Seized
During the operation, a Mazda CX-5, believed to have been used to transport migrants to their next stop, was also seized. The Immigration director general stated that the syndicate had adopted this new land-based method, moving away from previous sea routes. Authorities are expanding investigations to identify further activities and individuals involved in the organization.
