Alaska State Troopers Use Surfboard to Rescue Teen Who Fell Through Ice
Surfboard Utilized in Rescue Operation
Alaska State Troopers responded to a critical situation on Kodiak Lake where a teenager had fallen through the ice and was struggling to hold onto the ice sheet in the freezing water. Upon arrival, the troopers assessed that the ice was too thin for direct approach. They decided to use a surfboard as a rescue device. One trooper paddled the surfboard out to the struggling teen, assisting them onto the board, while other officers onshore used ropes to pull them both to safety.
Dramatic Rescue and Ensuring Safety
The trooper on the surfboard reached out to the teen, pulling them onto the board and helping them lie prone. Subsequently, other troopers on the shoreline, who were wearing protective gear, used a rope attached to the surfboard to carefully pull the teen and the rescue officer back to solid ground. The teenager, who was wearing a life vest, was immediately handed over to medical personnel for evaluation for hypothermia and other conditions. This incident underscores the importance of exercising extreme caution when engaging in activities on ice.
