China develops world-first high-voltage synchronous condenser for renewable energy grids
China's Innovation in Renewable Energy Grid Stabilization
China has achieved a world first by developing a high-voltage synchronous condenser to stabilize its renewable energy grids. This technology revives a century-old grid stabilization method, modernized to support the country's rapid transition to renewable energy. State media, China Electric Power News, reported on April 10 that a 35-kilovolt direct-connection rotating machine, developed by Dongfang Electric Machinery, successfully passed testing earlier that day.
Technical Achievement by Dongfang Electric Machinery
This successful test makes Dongfang Electric Machinery's synchronous condenser the first of its kind globally. Designed to operate directly with high-voltage systems, the technology is expected to play a crucial role in effectively managing the variability of renewable energy sources and maintaining the stability of the power grid.
