Stricter Rules for Mobile Battery Carry-on and Use

Ahead of Golden Week, new regulations regarding the carrying and use of mobile batteries on aircraft will take effect from April 24. Under these rules, each passenger is allowed to bring a maximum of two mobile batteries (under 160Wh) into the cabin. In-flight charging of mobile batteries and charging electronic devices from them are also prohibited. These measures follow a series of ignition and smoke incidents involving mobile batteries on airplanes.

Changes to Carry-on Luggage Rules and Airline Awareness Campaigns

The amount of carry-on luggage is also restricted to one personal item and one carry-on bag. Specifically, personal items must be small enough to fit under the seat in front, and souvenirs purchased before boarding will also be counted as one carry-on bag. Today at Haneda Airport, various airlines distributed leaflets and provided guidance to passengers about the revised rules. A flight attendant from Japan Airlines stated, "As luggage increases, cabin storage space becomes limited, so we would appreciate it if unnecessary items are checked in as baggage." Air travelers are advised to be aware of the new regulations.
