Congressman Kiko Barzaga Returns to Parliament After Indictment
Philippine Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga returned to Parliament after posting bail in a 'cyberlibel' case. His suspension ended last week, and his official return to the plenary session is scheduled for May 4th. Barzaga expressed his gladness to be back, stating that he plans to file bills aimed at removing Value Added Tax (VAT) and excise tax on fuel products. He emphasized that the current transport sector can no longer bear these taxes, making their removal essential.
Support for Vice President Sara Duterte and Critique of the Justice System
Barzaga also attended the House Committee on Justice hearing to show his support for Vice President Sara Duterte, who is facing impeachment complaints. He mentioned that his own indictment for cyberlibel was anticipated, as he has faced numerous cases previously. He criticized the Philippine justice system, noting that individuals involved in corruption, particularly in flood control projects, are closely associated with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and are therefore unlikely to be imprisoned. Barzaga believes that the impeachment efforts against Vice President Duterte are 'recycled issues' that will ultimately fizzle out, similar to past attempts.
