BYD Parking Garage Fire in Shenzhen: 'Test and Scrapped Vehicles' Area
Large Fire Breaks Out at BYD Industrial Estate Parking Garage
A significant fire erupted at a parking garage within the BYD industrial estate in Shenzhen, China, around 2:48 AM on April 14, 2026. The affected garage served as a storage area for BYD's 'test and scrapped vehicles'. Videos from the scene show massive plumes of black smoke billowing from the building, with intense flames visible across a long section of the upper levels.
Fire Department's Swift Response and No Casualties Reported
The local fire department in Shenzhen promptly rushed to the scene to combat the blaze. BYD later confirmed in a statement that the fire had been successfully extinguished and that no casualties were reported. While fires involving electric vehicles are less common compared to petrol-powered cars, they tend to burn hotter and longer, and have a higher propensity to reignite, making them more challenging to extinguish.
