Cebu Provincial Government Distributes Free Rice to Over 1,000 Jeepney Drivers Amid Fuel Price Hikes
Cebu Province Aids Transport Sector Amid Fuel Price Hikes
The Cebu provincial government has distributed 10 kilograms of free rice to over 1,000 public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers and passenger assistant officers, locally known as conductors. This assistance was provided at the Cebu Provincial Capitol over two days. Governor Pamela Baricuatro stated that the province is working diligently to assist sectors affected by rising fuel prices by rolling out targeted programs. She also affirmed that Cebu has sufficient rice and fuel supplies for at least the next month.
Partnership with Land Transportation Regulatory Board for Distribution
The province partnered with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 7 to identify qualified beneficiaries. LTFRB Region 7 holds the list of approximately 23,000 drivers across various vehicle types, including jeepneys, taxis, and CSVs, who will receive assistance. This initiative aims to alleviate the burden on drivers facing increased oil and gasoline prices, exacerbated by tensions in the Middle East. The distribution will continue as supplies become available to those affected.
