Marcos Announces Service Contracting Program, Fuel Subsidy for PUVs
New Program to Boost Public Transport Efficiency
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced on Thursday, April 9, the implementation of a 'service contracting program' beginning April 15. The program, initially focused on Metro Manila, will concentrate on routes connected to train lines and major bus routes to make travel smoother, faster, and more reliable. The President emphasized that these measures aim to enhance the overall efficiency of public transportation.
Fuel Subsidy and Commuter Discounts Introduced
Concurrently, President Marcos also announced the staggered implementation of a P10/liter fuel subsidy for public utility vehicles (PUVs) and a discount of at least 20% for commuters. These initiatives are designed to ease the burden on the transport sector due to rising fuel costs and to reduce the economic strain on public transport users. The government anticipates that these measures will contribute to the stability of the livelihood of ordinary citizens.
