The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which relies heavily on vast data sources, presents significant challenges to data sovereignty and information protection. The constant flow of data creates a dilemma for policymakers: how to maintain innovation and economic development while safeguarding national security. Concerns are rising that the unrestricted cross-border flow of data could severely jeopardize data sovereignty and national security.
Strategies for Securing Data Sovereignty
During a seminar hosted by the National Cyber Security Association (NCA) on April 7, Colonel Nguyen Hong Quang emphasized that protecting data sovereignty and avoiding reliance on foreign technology platforms are top strategic priorities from a national security perspective. To establish appropriate data governance, policymakers need to build robust legal frameworks. Furthermore, Ruma Balasubramanian, President for Asia Pacific & Japan at Check Point Software Technologies, proposed fundamental principles and solutions to resolve the contradiction between AI utilization and data sovereignty protection.
