Hong Kong's National Security Risks and Countermeasures
Chris Tang, Hong Kong's Secretary for Security, stated in multiple interviews that Hong Kong faces four major national security risks. He emphasized that these risks involve inciting actions that contravene national security, and in response, the Security Bureau and various law enforcement agencies will implement multi-faceted strategies. Specifically, he expressed a firm determination to crack down on activities disguised as 'soft resistance,' underscoring ongoing efforts to safeguard Hong Kong's stability.
Enhanced Intelligence Gathering and Law Enforcement
Tang announced plans to strengthen intelligence gathering and expand information exchange with domestic and international entities. He also reiterated that laws would be strictly enforced in accordance with the Hong Kong National Security Law and related regulations. He categorized groups like the 'Hong Kong Parliament' and the 'League for Self-Determination' as organizations that threaten national security, vowing to deal with them severely. Additionally, he outlined intentions to enhance national security education for civil servants to raise their awareness in daily work.
Countering Misinformation and Cross-Strait Relations
Tang stated that the government would actively refute misinformation and false rumors, having already issued over 300 rebuttals to provide accurate information to citizens. He stressed the importance of these efforts in helping Hong Kong citizens make informed judgments. Meanwhile, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said that the mainland is willing to promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations based on the '1992 Consensus' and opposition to 'Taiwan independence,' affirming that compatriots on both sides possess sufficient wisdom and capability.
