Two Arrested, Released in Connection with Fugitive Murderer Dezi Freeman Investigation
Arrests and Release in Freeman Case
Victoria Police detectives from Taskforce Summit arrested a man and a woman at two separate properties in north-east Victoria. The arrests were part of their ongoing investigation into the movements of Dezi Freeman. The pair were interviewed by police after sunrise and have since been released pending further inquiries. Police confirmed the individuals were associates of Freeman but not family members; their identities were not disclosed.
Background of Dezi Freeman Case
Dezi Freeman had been on the run since August last year after murdering two police officers who came to his home in Porepunkah to execute a warrant for historic sex offenses. Freeman was finally located and shot by police after a standoff on Monday in Thologolong, approximately two hours north of Porepunkah. Victoria Police have stated their belief that Freeman was supported during his months on the run by a network of supporters who helped him move around and provided him with food. The investigation will now strongly focus on identifying those who assisted him during that time. These arrests are the first in this line of inquiry, and potentially not the last.
