Iran Escalates Attacks on US Bases in West Asia; Trump's Conflicting Statements Cause Confusion
Iran's Attacks on US Military Bases and Resulting Damage
Despite US President Donald Trump's claims of winning against Iran, Iran's retaliatory attacks have inflicted significant damage on US military bases across West Asia. Last weekend, an E-3 Sentry AWACS aircraft, valued at $270 million, stationed at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, was destroyed. Additionally, a drone attack on Shuaiba Port in Kuwait resulted in the deaths of six US soldiers, and Ali Al-Salem Air Base also suffered considerable damage to its communication systems and buildings. Since the war began, at least 10 more US bases have been affected, with the US reportedly incurring $2.9 billion in losses within the first three weeks.
US Military Casualties and Asset Losses
The US has lost 13 military personnel and seen 303 soldiers injured in the West Asia war. Key military assets, including F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets, KC-135 Stratotankers, MQ-9 Reaper drones, and radar systems, have also been lost due to Iran's offensive. With many US military bases rendered uninhabitable by Iran's strikes, US personnel have been forced to work remotely from hotels and makeshift offices. Houthi rebels, aligning with Iran and Hezbollah, have threatened to blockade the Red Sea if Gulf nations join the war, exacerbating global energy market and supply chain anxieties.
President Trump's Inconsistent Statements and International Confusion
President Trump, while maintaining a tough stance on Iran, has repeatedly made contradictory statements on critical issues such as nuclear weapons development and the Strait of Hormuz, increasing confusion. He initially stated the US would strike Iran in 4-6 weeks, then changed to 'seriously hitting them in 2-3 weeks.' Furthermore, he mentioned taking oil from Iran but later claimed the US does not import oil through the Strait of Hormuz and will not need to in the future. He even asserted that Iran had agreed not to possess nuclear weapons. Such vague and inconsistent remarks from President Trump are causing instability in the international community and markets. World leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, have expressed concern over his unpredictability.
