Philippines to Experience Sustained Heat; Heat Index Reaches 47°C in Some Areas
Dangerous Heat Index Persists Across the Philippines
The Philippines is anticipated to endure hot and dry weather, with high heat index values persisting across many regions. On March 31, Virac, Catanduanes recorded a peak heat index of 47°C, which falls into the Danger category. Such extreme heat can lead to heat cramps and heat exhaustion, and prolonged exposure significantly increases the risk of heat stroke.
Influence of Easterlies and Regional Rainfall Forecasts
Tomorrow, April 1, the ridge of high pressure area will recede to the northeast, but the persistent easterlies—warm winds blowing from the Pacific—will continue to affect the Philippine archipelago. Rainfall forecasts indicate that parts of Mindanao may experience light rains in Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental in the morning, with scattered afternoon showers in Eastern, Southern, and Western Mindanao, and some evening rain in Lanao and Maguindanao provinces. Visayas and Palawan are generally expected to have fair and dry weather, though Eastern Samar and Leyte provinces might see some evening showers. Most of Luzon will be hot and dry, but there is a possibility of afternoon and evening rains in the Western Cordillera, Ilocos Region, and parts of Central Luzon. Metro Manila is forecast to remain hot, sunny, and dry throughout the day with no anticipated rainfall.
