China Invites KMT Chairperson Nien-Wen to Visit Next Month Amid Escalating Tensions
Xi Jinping Extends Invitation to KMT Chairperson Nien-Wen's Delegation
Chinese Communist Party Central Committee General Secretary Xi Jinping has invited Kuomintang (KMT) Chairperson Nien-Wen to lead a delegation to China from the 7th to the 12th of next month, visiting Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Beijing. The KMT chairman's office stated that Chairperson Nien-Wen expressed gratitude for the invitation and accepted it. Song Tao, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee, noted that Chairperson Nien-Wen has long expressed a desire to visit the mainland to promote peaceful development of relations between the KMT and across the Taiwan Strait. Song Tao added that they would communicate with the KMT side to make appropriate arrangements for the visit.
China's Stance on Taiwan and Retaliatory Measures Against Japan
China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that the Taiwan issue is the core of China's core interests and an insurmountable 'red line.' Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that China had lodged solemn representations with Japan regarding Japanese lawmaker Keiji Furuya's visit to Taiwan. Mao Ning criticized Furuya Keiji for continuously colluding with Taiwan independence separatist forces, severely interfering in China's internal affairs, and infringing upon China's sovereignty and core interests. In response, China announced reciprocal sanctions against Furuya Keiji in accordance with the 'Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law of the People's Republic of China,' which include denying entry to China, including Hong Kong and Macau, and freezing his assets within China.
Southern Theater Command Conducts Combat Readiness Patrols near Huangyan Island
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Southern Theater Command announced that it organized naval and air forces to conduct combat readiness patrols in the territorial waters and airspace around Huangyan Island and its adjacent areas on Tuesday. The Southern Theater Command reiterated that Huangyan Island is China's inherent territory and highlighted that since March, naval and air forces have continuously strengthened patrols and alert activities in the maritime and aerial regions surrounding Huangyan Island. Additionally, the Coast Guard has also conducted law enforcement patrols in the territorial waters and surrounding areas of Huangyan Island, intensifying efforts to deal with illegal incursions. These drills and patrols are aimed at safeguarding national sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, as well as maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea region.
