SD Cards, Hard Drives Become 'Digital Gold' in Hong Kong Amid Price Surge
Surging Storage Device Prices in Hong Kong
SD card and hard drive prices have dramatically increased in Hong Kong recently. Photographer Jacky Lau Kin-sang was surprised to find professional-grade high-capacity SD cards costing up to HK$3,000 (US$383) each, three times more than anticipated, when upgrading his camera systems. The price of the 16TB hard drives he used for client image backups also skyrocketed from HK$1,880 to HK$3,880.
Rising Cost of Data Storage
This surge in storage device prices is escalating the burden of data storage costs for Hong Kong residents and professionals. As these devices are essential for individuals handling large volumes of data, such as photographers and video producers, the price increase is expected to directly impact their economic activities. Currently, SD cards and hard drives are being referred to as the new 'digital gold' in Hong Kong, reflecting their increased value.
